A Super Smashing Summertime Fun
With all the great weather we've been having in Vancouver, you will be forgiven to think that a summer party would take place outside in the brilliant sunshine. A super spot right by the beach with a gorgeous view of English Bay and the mountains raising out of the sea to the north would be ideal for most people. Developers are far from the likes of most people though. They are extraordinarily brilliant when it comes to making great things come to life on a mobile phone or tablet. The ability to spend time outside, however, is not a super skill that we have much in abundance. After all, we already went for a hike up the Stawamus Chief back in April! Gotta tone all that UV absorption down!!
Instead, we spent a memorable Saturday afternoon nicely comfortable in front of some large screens. There was a heatwave outside in Vancouver but inside InkPad Studios HQ, it was as cool as a cucumber left outside in December. A lot has been happening over the past few months. The Perfect Aces team is extremely happy to have their game evaluated at Apple central so that it can be downloaded from iTunes Connect very soon! They spent the afternoon tidying up the server and making minor adjustments to the game based on feedback from our select team of beta testers. Fantastic art was integrated into Circle Wars and an updated screen flow was discussed for an upcoming RPG that we will be launching in December.
It was a super day of our usual collaboration and moving projects forward but everyone was also antsy about the upcoming Smash Brothers tournament. Some our members are serious gamers and taking the top bragging rights title is a huge challenge. Over the past weeks, there have been some friendly jockeying within the office as well as some late night practice. We knew this one would be a very close fight.
A scrumptious spread of our favorite Japanese food topped the evening before the tournament. Specially catered by our sponser, Sakanaya Sushi, the team enjoyed the likes of Deluxe Mango California Rolls, West Coast Smoked Salmon Sushi Pockets, Asparagus Gomae along with BBQ teriyaki chicken, tempura and of course, wild sockeye salmon and tuna sashimi!
The big event of the night arrived after exciting and highly competitive warm up rounds. The truly gifted hardcore Smash geniuses easily dispatched the casual gamers and the game was on. A brilliant 4 player dual between Villager (yes, we liked the ability to grow trees), Kirby, Sonic and Young Link. Who’s got that special skill that will put him over the top? Who will ultimately win and earn top bragging rights within InkPad Studios – even if it was just for the evening? Perhaps not surprisingly, it was Villager and his axe! We loved how he plants, waters and grow each tree! Congratulations, Anthony C. for the big win!
